Stay away from Arne! - After living and working here in Nabire for close to 3 years, we, my girlfriend (Dutch) and I (Swiss) finally decided to make our way out to Ahe for a weekend at the beautiful island. Both of us were very excited and we were really looking forward to the two days we would spend on the small island. But this excitement was shattered the instant we arrived and met Arne, the owner of the resort. The problem was not the fact that apparently there was no room, that all 5 cabins were fully booked, but Arne himself. There was no hello, no nothing, just a very bitter guy telling us, well, for lack of better words, to get off HIS island. Funny, till now, most Dutch people we've met proved to be very hospitable, nice and with a great sense of humor. Not so Arne. We understand; the island is his business and since people spend a ton of money (950 Euros!!) for five days, he can not have people picnicking on the beach. But, he's also in the tourism business and he could have told us all that very, very differently. If this was my business, I would have invited us for a coffee and explained things; I would have taken the time to show us around. Ahe is indeed beautiful, but, there is no island, no dive site in the world worth to have to deal with such an old, bitter and unhappy owner. I strongly suggest for all of you to check out Max Diving (out of Sorong, Papua), if you're planning a diving trip to Papua. Stay away from Arne!
